Hey there, it’s Jeremy from Ochsner Insurance with another one-take journal entry. You might be wondering, what’s with the one take? Well, it’s all about authenticity—no edits, just straight talk about the ups and downs of running an independent, scratch insurance agency.
Agency Update: A Week of Challenges and Triumphs
Let’s start with the agency update. Last week was a whirlwind of emotions and obstacles. Despite facing challenges like struggling with our marketing drops and falling short on our call goals, we kept pushing forward. Renewals were coming in, albeit with some hefty increases on personal lines policies. But hey, that’s the nature of the game.
Record Keeping and Follow-up Systems
One area where we stumbled was record keeping. I’ll be the first to admit that I dropped the ball on that one. But hey, we’re learning from our mistakes and implementing a new system to ensure we stay on track. Our not-new four-to-five window is all about prioritizing service and follow-up, whether it’s updating our CRM from prospect interactions, tracking our activities for measurable results or sending out follow-up, prospecting emails.
Speaking of follow-up, I realized I’ve been slacking in that department, especially after networking events. It’s time to change that. We’ve devised a plan to categorize our networking contacts and follow up accordingly—whether it’s with a personal card, a phone call, or an encouraging email. These follow ups will happen in the 4-5 window 24 hours after with 48 being the longest for a follow up!
Facing Challenges Head-On
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room—the challenges we faced last week. From service issues with another business to dealing with personal lines carriers, it felt like we were constantly fighting fires and walking is thick deep mud up to your knees. Personal lines carriers are tightening their belts due to inflation and legal complexities, making our job even tougher.
But despite the setbacks and the urge to throw in the towel (believe me, I felt like quitting 12 times), we’re still here, still fighting. We’re adapting, we’re learning, and we’re growing. Because that’s what entrepreneurship is all about—navigating the highs and lows with resilience and determination.
Looking Ahead
As I wrap up this journal entry, I’m reminded of the importance of perseverance, transparency and staying true to our vision. Yes, the road may be bumpy, but every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Here’s to facing the week ahead with courage, optimism, and a relentless pursuit of success.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. Until next time, here’s to your success!
